La Fundación Educadora Carla Cristina was founded in  1963 in Medellín with the mission of providing high quality preschool education to children between 3 and 6 years of age that come from vey low income families or that have been displaced by violence. The Foundation began its work in a small room in a marginalized neighborhood of the city with 30 students. As of 2008,  Carla Cristina has 22 preschools in Medellín, 17 of their own and 5 which they run, ultimately benefiting over 4000 children.

The Foundation is leader in the management and development of early education programs and additionally it provides the children with other comprehensive services such as: nutritional support, medical assistance and community intervention to work with families and community leaders.

Since 2007, Genesis has supported a new preschool from Carla Cristina called “Santa Maria de Palestina Centro de Educación Integral” (Santa Maria de Palestina Comprehensive Education Center) to improve the quality of life of the children in the preschool by providing them with a education, nutritional support and medical assistance. Genesis’s support was directed to the acquisition of new equipment and to the functioning of the preschool. During the same year Genesis started a campaign with Conexión Colombia to build 11 playgrounds in 11 of Carla Cristina’s preschools. Genesis provided Carla Cristina with a matching grant for the 11 playgrounds.
