Location: Bogotá, Colombia
Established in 1970 by a group of
ex-students from a well recognized private school from Bogotá (Gimnasio
Femenino), the not-for-profit institution Fundación Ana Restrepo del Corral,
offers preschool through high-school education to over 1,000 children from
economically disadvantaged families. In order to guarantee an integral
approach, the organization provides its students with a wide variety of complementary
services such as nutritional support, occupational therapy, audiology and
dental and medical assistance.
The organization achieves excellent
results on Colombia’s national exams (SABER and ICFES) measuring the quality of
education, a low drop-out-of-rate, has been recognized nationally for its
outstanding work, and enrolls a good number of students who receive
scholarships to continue with their undergraduate studies. Additionally, to
prepare students to enter the job market, the institution has a partnership
with SENA, the governmental institution in charge of technical education in
Colombia, to offer high school vocational-technical education.
Since 2007, Genesis Foundation has
supported the infrastructural project ‘Bases Firmes Educación Segura.’ This
project is refurbishing one of institution’s main buildings in order to
guarantee children’s security and to provide an adequate study environment.
