Fundación Luz de Amor
  Location: Bucaramanga, Colombia

Established in 1998, Fundación Luz de Amor is a non-profit organization operating in a vulnerable community in Bucaramanga. The majority of this city is comprised of impoverished areas with a large percentage of its population living in abject conditions. The foundation aims to help young children and their families living in the most indigent of economic situations. Many of the children at the organization serves are orphans, have been abandoned, displaced from their home towns, or are victims of violence.  Many of these children live in makeshift houses constructed from inadequate materials found on the streets, with no access to basic services such as water and light. Luz de Amor takes a holistic approach with respect to those they serve. Aid means not only financial assistance, but equilibrium of physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health as well.

The 200 children served range from four to fifteen years of age and receive a wide array of services in addition to basic preschool and elementary education.  The organization provides them with lunch, snacks, psychological assistance, primary health care, dental treatment, school supplies, and uniforms. Genesis has been supporting this organization since 2005 covering its operational expenses.

Due to the need of expanding their coverage and having a better and bigger school infrastructure, Luz de Amor started to administrate a new school called “Cooprofesores”. They work in the morning with children up to 10th grade in the school Cooprofesores, and in the afternoon in the same installations with the preschool and elementary students from Luz de Amor. With this arrangement, they are benefiting over 300 students from the Cooprofesores and over 200 from the Foundation with their high quality education, nutrition, psychological and medical services
