The Genesis Foundation was formed by a group of Colombian and American entrepreneurs, industrialists, and financial investors who always held tight to their belief of giving back to the various communities in which they had lived and worked, and which had played a role in their professional success.
The first step toward the formation of Genesis took place in 1998, with the creation of an endowment. Three years later, in 2001, the Genesis Foundation was incorporated in Florida as a non-profit private foundation under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Tax Revenue Code.
Since then, Genesis has been actively funding projects that meet its selection criteria and have successfully completed a stringent review and approval process. (click here to learn more about our selection criteria and process).
Our Board of Directors and Board of Advisors are composed of Colombian and American philanthropists who have worked in business together for over 30 years as well as members of their families. (For a list of our board members, please contact us at genesis@genesis-foundation.org.)
To achieve its philanthropic mission, Genesis relies on recurrent donations from its founders and board members, as well as on funds from third parties identifying with its goal. All operational expenses are underwritten by the founders, so all donations from third parties are used in their entirety to fund projects we support.
We also promote direct funding of the projects by third parties (“co-funding initiatives”) and will provide all relevant information on the particular project(s).
