Genesis accomplishments in 2011

We are very proud to share with you our great accomplishments of 2011. In an effort to continue our mission of enhancing quality of education in the most vulnerable communities in Colombia, we invested a total of US$1,354,105 in 21 projects nation wide. We increased our coverage from over 79,000 students the previous year to 168,000 students in 2011 due to the expansion and replication of our models.

We once again would like to thank all who support our work, and in this way help thousands of children achieve their dreams through education!

Implementation of the model Juventud Rural may start in 150 educational institutions in the country in 2012

In 2011, the model Juventud Rural, Educación y Desarrollo Rural was reviewed and adjusted in alliance with the Ministry of Education, Fundacion Manuel Mejía, Oxy and Fundacion El Alcaraván. Based on the results and in alliance with the same partners, it is highly probable that we may initiate the implementation of the model in 2012 in 150 high school institutions located in rural and urban-marginal areas in 14 departments (states) of the country. The project will prioritize educational needs especially in border areas, indigenous communities and in those regions with the highest drop-out rates and number of children who are out of the educational system.

Genesis begins to replicate Macro Project First Learning Steps in Colombia

In coordination with the national strategy for comprehensive attention to early childhood education in Colombia “De Cero a Siempre”, the program First Learning Steps starts its replication phase benefiting another 693 children in the department (state) of Magdalena, and 480 children in Nariño, for a total of 1,540 children.

The national goal in 2012 is to transition from models based solely on attention to a quality model based on national standards. The Colombian Institute for Family Welfare (ICBF) and local governments are supporting the expansion. We are also establishing alliances with the private sector to broaden coverage and have greater impact.

This program designed and validated for 3 years is one of the high-quality models for comprehensive early childhood care in Colombia and is contributing to the goal of providing education to 1.200.000 children under 5 years of age who live under extreme poverty conditions.

We want to thank the 80 runners, people and sponsors who supported Genesis last Sunday in the Miami Marathon!

Thanks to your generosity we raised $19,000 to provide nutrition to the 125 children in our First Learning Steps preschool in Santa Marta, Colombia!

We also want to thank Alpina and Muscle Milk for their generous contribution, which allowed us to provide breakfast and protein shakes to our runners after the race!

Your support makes it possible for Genesis to continue helping more and more children through this joint effort! THANK YOU FOR RUNNING FOR THE CHILDREN OF COLOMBIA!

So far we have raised $11,540 for our ING Miami Marathon campaign! Help us to reach our goal of $30,000 to provide education and nutritional support to 125 children from 2 to 5 years old in one of our “First Learning Steps” preschools in Santa Marta, Colombia. By donating a minimum amount you can be part of Genesis´ team and you will be contributing to an incredible cause.

Step 1: Register for the race at www.ingmiamimarathon.com and choose Genesis Foundation from the official charities, were it says "Affiliation". If you already registered don´t worry, you can still be part of our team.

Step 2: Once you are registered for the race, please visit https://www.wepay.com/donate/genesisfoundation and make a small donation to join our team officially!

When you make the donation, the system will let you choose the size of the dry-fit t-shirt.
You can also set up a personal fundraising goal and invite your friends and family to support your cause (Let us know if you are interested in doing so, so we can assist you in setting up your own donation webpage).

Step 3: Get your running shoes on and join Genesis Foundation on January 29, 2012!

Columbia Business School students helping Genesis to reach the goal of the Miami Marathon to support First Learning Steps!

Students from Columbia Business School class of 2012, donated $3,070 dollars altogether to support our goal of reaching $30,000 in the ING Miami Marathon to provide nutrition to the 125 children in our First Learning Steps preschool in Santa Marta!

Genesis Foundation contributes to the construction of a school in Mosquera to support children affected by the seasonal rains.

Over 1000 children and youngsters in the municipality of Mosquera, that were affected by the seasonal rains in Colombia, are now enjoying a new educational center. The school Compartir Mosquera (3200 square meters) was constructed in seven months, and is the result of an alliance between more than 30 public and private partners that donated to make this dream come true.

The first lady of Colombia, Maria Clemencia de Santos, commented during the inauguration of the school on November 25, 2011 "This construction is an example of efficiency, quality and transparent use of resources, it is a wonderful example of the benefits of a public-private alliance".

Genesis Foundation is proud to have contributed to this cause with $50,000, becoming one of the biggest private donors supporting the construction of the school.

We are very happy to announce that BeLive 2011 was a great success!

On November 17th Genesis Foundation joined Give to Colombia, Formula Smiles and ArtNexus Foundation to host BeLive for the fifth consecutive year.

This year the event was chaired by fashion icon Lauren Santo Domingo and well-known star Sofía Vergara.

BeLive featured the Wayuu Mochila project in the silent auction raising over $50,000. The fashion show was under the direction of The Webster with a beautiful collection of Yves Saint Laurent and Grammy Award winner Fonseca joined us for a spectacular concert promoting his newest album.

Once again, BeLive was and amazing event that raised over $600,000 and will recieve a matching grant of 50% from Acción Social. The event created awareness about Colombia´s social needs and raised funds to support the projects of the host foundations in education, nutrition, health, and social and economic development.
