Justification:

Reading and writing are fundamental for the children’s success in schools and for their own personal development. Children’s reading and writing skills have a high impact in their success or failure in school. A good reader and writer will be in better conditions for elaborating arguments, reflecting, as well as for generating a critical sense and respect and tolerance for other’s opinions. All of these are decisive factors for a good academic development.  It has been identified that 5-10 years is the critical stage for children to learn to read and write and to develop these skills.

Methodology:

  • TEACHERS TRAINING: An initial diagnosis of the reading and writing skills of teachers is elaborated and then teacher’s previous classroom experiences and knowledge are used to improve their pedagogical methods and strengthen their teaching skills in the classroom through new teaching strategies.
  • WORK WITH STUDENTS: Teachers motivate their students to improve their reading and writing skills through innovative activities that require their participation, creativity and spontaneity (such as a personal Diary called Mi Diario Palabrario). These activities improve children’s overall performance as readers and writers.
  • WORK WITH PARENTS: The project involves parents by promoting their participation in the learning process of their children by encouraging them to read to their children at home.

Annual cost per student: US$10
