Super Aula

Project Description

It is an interdisciplinary methodology that seeks to help schools to detect and improve the learning difficulties of students in elementary school. This pedagogical strengthening program works with children from preschool to fifth grade that have learning difficulties in order to help them improve their academic performance, as well as their self-esteem and social abilities. It is a program that works individually with each student depending on their rhythm of learning.

Level: Elementary School

Starting Date of the project: 2004

Previous implementations: Bogotá and Cartagena

Active regions 2012: Bogotá and Cartagena

Direct Beneficiaries: 6 educational institutions, 1,135 students (with learning difficulties)

Partners 2012: Genesis Foundation, Alianza Educativa and Granitos de Paz

Justification

SuperAula has a direct impact in the decrease of grade repetition, overage and dropout rates. Studies indicate that approximately 15% of the children in formal schooling present learning difficulties. Drop out often results in problems such as delinquency, drugs, joining of illegal armed forces and in the worst case scenario, children become non qualified labor force.

SuperAula seeks to improve the learning difficulties that students present specifically in mathematics and Spanish. Moreover, it seeks to decrease the repetition and drop-out rates and unjustified school absence, as well as increasing their academic performance and strengthen children’s self-esteem.

Methodology

During the fourth week of therapy, the student interacts with a psychologist and a speech therapist. Then teachers and parents are encouraged to support the process with the children in the classrooms and at home.
